One of the country’s leading growers and suppliers of fresh potatoes, has been working alongside HBPW and a range of other specialists, to develop a new potato processing facility in Scotland.
Greenvale AP began life in 1960 as part of Ross, a subsidiary of the Imperial Food Group, before it expanded massively, eventually becoming listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM Market. Now it has 10 sites across the UK specialising in all aspects of potato production.
HBPW Partner, Emyr Parry, said: “Greenvale looked to MSE Systems when they decided to develop a water treatment plant to support their potato processing facility at Duns in Berwick On Tweed.
“MSE, who specialise in providing effluent and waste water treatment solutions for a range of sectors including food processing, then invited Firbeck Construction to co-ordinate the project and we won the tender to design the civils for supporting the plant.”
HBPW designed the plant’s foundations as well as the drainage infrastructure.
“Over the years we have worked on a variety of projects for the food industry, including engineering design work at one of the world’s leading bagel production centres, so this wasn’t an entirely new experience.
“However, it is always rewarding to see a complex job come to fruition and, despite minor glitches, all parties worked well together to complete the processing facility which is now in full working order,” said Emyr.
