HBPW and GRAHAM Construction have won a top civil engineering award for their work at Port of Dundee.
The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Scotland is the sole trade body for the country’s civil engineering contractors and the organisation behind the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards.
It has presented GRAHAM construction, Forth Ports, HBPW Consulting Engineers and Doran Consulting Ltd with its Local Economy Regeneration Award, made at a special gala lunch hosted by Olympic gold medallist, Eve Muirhead. It was in recognition for their joint work on the Port of Dundee – East Development.
Widely recognised as the highest honour for engineering excellence in the built environment, the awards showcase innovation and celebrate the vital contribution civil engineers make to people’s quality of life.
The Port of Dundee – East Development is part of the £1billion scheme to transform Dundee City Waterfront.
The main project, which started in 2001 with a projected finish date of 2031, encompasses 240 hectares of development land stretching 8km alongside the River Tay. The area, which is divided into five focussed zones, also includes Dundee Port.
HBPW is working with GRAHAM and its other supply partners, on a series of focussed schemes that form part of the Port of Dundee’s ‘Dundee East Re-development Project’
Providing designs and drawings for both the land side and marine works, these individual schemes will see four key outcomes:
- The demolition and replacement of Caledon East Wharf, which was built in 1945
- Upgrading of load capacity to the existing Prince Charles Wharf
- Upgrading of the Prince Charles Wharf Extension anchor wall.
- Construction of unmetalled hard standings capable of supporting huge crawler cranes.
Overall, they represent a £25m investment.
HBPW Managing Partner, Paul Withers, said: “We are delighted to receive this Scottish recognition. All our supply partners have worked so hard on this project but it is always great to receive formal recognition and, in this case, from such a prestigious body as CECA Scotland.”
CECA Scotland is the sole trade body for Scotland’s civil engineering contractors representing around 80% of the industry.
Its members work tirelessly to drive Scotland’s economic growth, working across the roads, rail, water and power sectors to deliver Scotland’s vital infrastructure.
