Not Getting Bogged Down In The Detail!
5/04/2022 - posted in Buildings, Geoenvironmental, HBPW News, IndustrialA huge 250,000 sq ft warehouse used for storing millions of toilet rolls is about to get an enormous extension………….so that toilet roll storage capacity can be increased!
And, when the world thought it was about to run out of the ubiquitous loo roll at the height of the pandemic, HBPW Associate, Shaun Strugnell, the man behind this latest extension for Royal London Asset Management, was someone with a very different view!
“Royal London owns the land on Ashburton Road West in the Trafford district of Manchester, leasing it to leading hygiene and health company, Essity who occupy the existing warehouse.
“It is already a huge building but this latest extension will extend it by a further 97,000 sq ft and, whilst hygiene products figure highly on the internal racking, I know that toilet rolls will be the principal item stored there!
“Having said that, it is an essential item and, when you consider that there are more than 60m people in the UK, it is not hard to imagine that HGV activity is intense and turnover rapid as loo rolls wing their way round the country!“
The multi span portal frame extension is currently under construction. However, before work began HBPW’s in-house geotechnical team carried out ground and ground gas investigations before giving developers the green light.
“In many respects buildings of this nature – or ‘sheds’ as they tend to be known in engineering circles – are commonplace although size varies from client to client. However, sometimes the real interesting fact is knowing what they are going to be used for!”
