Stunning 3d visuals produced by HBPW show what a village station in Stockton-on-Tees will look like once a multi-million pounds re-development of the site has been completed.
Eaglescliffe railway station – around eight miles east of Darlington – is located on the Tees Valley Line running between Bishop Auckland and Saltburn via Darlington.
However, despite the fact that it connects people both locally and with a popular service to London, it has been historically ‘restricted’ in that the station has been difficult to access from its western flank.
But that’s about to change as Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technician, Tom Shiels, explains.
“The long-overdue redevelopment of Eaglescliffe has now been officially given the green light. A double span bridge will be key to opening up land to the west of the station including the Durham Lane Industrial Estate, which has never been possible before.”
After discussions with residents and interested groups, it has been decided that the existing footbridge and access ramps will be retained to maximise access during construction, and also provide a second emergency exit.
The changes will also see the development of accessible toilets, baby changing facilities and three new buildings, each with lifts and staircases. A new brick waiting shelter will also be created on the platform.
A new car park to the west of the station will also be built as part of the development.
The first phase of work has now started and is due to complete late 2025.
HBPW Partner, Paul Monaghan, said: “The scheme features a full multi-disciplinary design involving Civil and Structural Design, M&E, COMMS, E&P, Signal Sighting with HBPW acting as lead designer and supported by our excellent key supply chain partners including AGHE (M&E), MRC (Comms Design) and Kilburn (Signal Sighting).”
Network Rail north and east route principal programme sponsor, Anna Weeks, said: “This project is a real collaboration between Network Rail and Tees Valley Combined Authority and the end result will be a station that better and more easily serves the people of Eaglescliffe.”
The multi-million pounds scheme is jointly funded by the Tees Valley Combined Authority, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Network Rail.
