Geoenvironmental Engineer, Jay Fox, has joined HBPW as part of the drive to bring traditionally outsourced expertise back in house.
And his arrival this month means the firm’s highly regarded ‘value engineering’ approach to all its projects, is set to get even better.
Jay, who joins HBPW from Lincoln based Delta-Simons Environmental Consultants, is, in his own words “half geologist and half engineer.”
An expert in geotechnics, contaminated land and other environmental consultancy such as EIA, he will also be advising on specialist areas like asbestos surveying and management with an emphasis on asbestos in construction materials and soil, a subject which causes much confusion and one in which he is contributing to national guidance.
“The ‘value’ aspect of my role revolves around joined up thinking. So many project teams, particularly in larger consultancies, still have separate people for each discipline whereas I will be advising clients on economic combined ground investigations covering geotechnics, contaminated land and materials issues, all at the same time.
“There is still poor industry awareness of materials re-use using, for instance, the CL:aire Development Industry Code of Practice, and there is still so much money wasted and opportunities to demonstrate sustainability. I am really looking forward to the challenge.”
