Case study: Silverstone Racetrack
Background:-
HBPW had previously worked on a bridge spanning the Silverstone circuit, making it first choice to work alongside the Buckingham Group as Civil/Structural engineers, when their partners were asked to make a welcome return to the world famous circuit.
Challenge
To create a new pit and paddock complex.
Solution
In addition to the buildings – on the famous straight between Club Corner and Abbey – HBPW’s experts also worked on external paddock hard standings, the energy centre, pit lanes and circuit and pit lane retaining/safety crash walls.
The walls were designed to the strict regulations of the sport’s governing body, the FIA, and can withstand the impact of cars travelling at 250km per hour.
Outcome
A striking structure that houses 41 team garages, a media centre, hospitality suites, the race control centre and, of course, the winner’s podium. Hundreds of millions of TV viewers now see HBPW’s work at the world-famous Silverstone racetrack every year.
