When Paul Jacklin took to the high seas recently his latest inspection job didn’t see him in a millionaire’s yacht so much as a small boat with an outboard engine!
It was all part of a project for new client APT (Immingham) Ltd who asked HBPW to carry out a series of inspections to their concrete jetties, dolphins, handrails and fenders at Immingham Oil Terminal.
Associate Paul said: “Crude oil from across the world is brought into Immingham which is close to the Phillips 66 and Lindsay oil terminals.
“It is a busy facility and many of its structures have been around for two decades so the corrosive effects of salt water have taken their toll, prompting APT to ask us to carry out a comprehensive inspection of the facility.
“It is very difficult to see beneath many of the structures so, for fear of stating the obvious, we have to get in a boat and sail beneath them; rough water and lots of photography are generally the order of the day. Hardly luxury travel aboard the high seas!”
A range of remedial repairs have now been recommended and these will start some time next year.
