Spotlight On…….Ross Hardy
24/06/2013 - posted in HBPW NewsDesign Engineer, Ross Hardy, may still only be in his 20’s but, whilst many of his contempories may be sitting behind a desk for most of the week, he has become an unwitting expert of Victorian bridge design.
Ross,27, who hails from Hull, has been with HBPW since April 2010 and spends much of his time designing the steel work repairs for bridges across the UK.
And, on more than one occasion, his work for the likes of Network Rail, has brought him into contact with structures from the golden era of engineering.
The Leeds University graduate, who works alongside HBPW partner, Paul Monaghan, said: “Most recently I was involved in the makeover of Barnsley’s impressive Swaithe Viaduct, which was built in 1896, is 150 metres long and features 11 masonry piers.
“So many of these bridges were, and remain, incredible feats of engineering and, whilst my role is to ensure that structures like Swaithe Viaduct remain intact for future generations, I never fail to be inspired by the engineers of a bygone era.”
