Hull’s Finger Lickin’ Development

If ‘fast food’ is to live up to its reputation then look no further than Hull where KFC is soon to build a new drive through ‘pod’ in a little under three months.

East Riding planners have given the green light to the scheme in the car park of Willerby Shopping Park below Papa’s Roundabout on the A164, and HBPW Associate Shaun Strugnell is the man charged with delivering the scheme’s civil and structural engineering plans.

He said: “There will be seating for 64 people, in addition to the drive thru offering, and the restaurant will also feature outside seating, a bike shelter and, obviously, litter bins in addition to 59 parking spaces.

“Developments like this – the new KFC will be located next to an existing McDonalds – are real ‘turnkey’ operations in that they are delivered on a tried and tested construction format that is put together rapidly and precisely, something that fast food brands have spent decades fine tuning.”

The single storey construction – set to create 13 full-time jobs – measures 28×11 metres, is being delivered for DTZ Investors with development beginning later this year. The contractor has yet to be confirmed, however, Redbourn Group Ltd will project manage the scheme.

“We have responsibility for the super and sub structures,” added Shaun, “along with drainage and external works from tender through to construction.”

Developers say the 229sqm drive-thru will help meet customers’ expectations for food and drink venues in “modern” shopping centres and offer an improved experience at Willerby Shopping Park whilst enhancing the site’s contribution to the local economy.
