Luton Station which is set to undergo a major facelift
Six months into the project that will see the £6m re development of Luton Railway Station, Network Rail is now considering HBPW’s formal recommendations for the scheme.
When major projects are under development, they are completed as part of NR’s ‘grip stages’. Managing Director, Paul Withers, said: “There are eight levels to the grip stage process and the first four are known as ‘scheming out’ when we look at the most economical and best way in which to complete any scheme.
“At Luton we are now at stage four, which means Network Rail is in the process of reviewing our recommendations, ahead of issuing a Project Requirement Schedule, from which both parties will agree final designs and proceed to the more detailed stages of the grip stages, levels five to eight.”
As part of the Access for All scheme, Luton Station’s concourse is being re-developed along with staircases, lifts and the station’s superstructure.
“It is not the biggest scheme of its type in the UK, however, it is one of the larger ones and we have three engineers working on it,” added Paul.
