On Yer Bike! Charity Ride Nets ££££
8/07/2015 - posted in HBPW NewsFive of HBPW’s engineers swapped logarithms for lycra when they took part in a two day charity bike ride, helping raise £100,000 in the process.
The event, organised by Graham Construction, began in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland and featured participants from various companies including Associated British Ports.
But the teams from ABP and HBPW waited for their construction counterparts to land on the mainland in Liverpool, before joining them for the remaining near 200 mile cycle to Grimsby, via Barnsley.
Shaun Strugnell said: “It was hard work but we were delighted to get involved because the bike ride raised money for Motor Neurone Disease – ABP’s preferred charity this year – and CAT Zero, a Humber wide charitable organisation.
“Around 35 of us took part in the two day event which involved an overnight stay in Barnsley, cycling capital of South Yorkshire! Earlier we had scaled the summit of Holme Moss, 1719ft above sea level, so I think it is safe to say we all slept well before the second day push to the Humber.”
Everyone completed the ride.
“We not only had a specially designed jersey, courtesy of Graham Lagan Construction, but there were support vans en-route in case one of us felt it was too much. For a whole minute it felt like the Tour De Humber!” added Shaun.
