Edward NeehamHBPW’s Geoenvironmental Department is expanding with the appointment of Edward Needham as its new graduate engineer.

Edward, who hails from Derbyshire, is being brought in to support department head, Jay Fox, who has been under steadily increasing pressure since joining the firm over 18 months ago.
“I was originally appointed to set up the Geoenvironmental Department and, as a practice, we have been very successful in attracting even more geotechnical work, hence the need for expansion.

“The department has a raft of existing and future projects particularly in the rail sector,” said Jay. “Edward will be immediately involved in ground investigations, geotechnical design and developing his interest in drainage design which will free me up to further develop the contaminated land and materials management capability of the business.”

Edward, who graduated from the University of Surrey in Guildford with a First Class MEng (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering, worked at Mansell plc during his industry placement year and, whilst at university, assisted with the design of a reinforced concrete reservoir and an ocean thermal power station.

“He is particularly interested in geology and hydrology,” added Jay, “and is keen to develop his skills in drainage design, which is of particular interest to HBPW, since we have ambitions to develop our workload in the area of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS), something that Edward has already focussed on. HBPW has a diverse project portfolio and Edward will gain a flying start to his career and professional development, helping to develop the nation’s infrastructure.”
