HBPW Helps Give Wolves New Lease of Life

Wolves StadiumFor the ‘new’ to rise the ‘old’ (stand) must go…..but, when you’re talking about one of England’s oldest football grounds, it takes a lot of planning!

Wolverhampton Wanderers Stan Cullis Stand, named after one of the club’s great former players, was dismantled recently to make way for a new structure that will increase crowd capacity.

However, it wasn’t just a case of ‘pulling it down!’ A lot of careful planning had to be carried out and HBPW advised on the demolition process at Wolves’ Molineux stadium.

We worked closely with stadium developers, Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd, to advise on ‘pre-weakening’ and, ultimately, demolition, preparing calculations to support the controlled collapse of the canopy of the cantilever stand down onto the terraces.

The new Stan Cullis Stand will increase crowd capacity from 29,300 to 31,700

Client: Wolverhampton Wanderers FC
Contractor: Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd
Contract Value: £5m
